Just 24 Hours At Bay

Metal Statue Taken Outside in a city

Hey Friend, just popping on the site today to share a little day in the life with a cat in the brain type of post. Yep, you read that right. :) Yesterday I used my time wisely, actually, I did exactly what I wanted to do on my day off.

Lately, I’ve really been craving slower days where I can regroup, relax, and enjoy simple little moments without feeling rushed all over the place. Life moves fast enough as it is, so anytime I can take a full day to unwind and reset myself, I’ll gladly take it.

I do not know about you guys, but I love taking a day to get myself together mentally so I can prepare for my weekly real life. Side note: I absolutely need a full day or two dedicated to things I want to do, even if that sometimes turns into doing nothing.

Now my routine changes from day to day and week to week, but I’ve learned how to tweak things here and there so it fits my real lifestyle instead of trying to force myself into some strict schedule that does not work for me. So let’s jump into it, shall we?

Since I have a 14-year-old, it’s normal for me to rise early every morning to make sure she is doing what she needs to do before heading out for school. Thank goodness there are only two more weeks of school left before summer break.

Since I am not going to the gym today, I made my bed, cleaned my room, and lit every candle I could find. I got it smelling good up in here, Y’all. I love lighting candles because it instantly shifts my mood and makes everything feel calm, cozy, and peaceful before the day really starts.

After that, I fixed my coffee, did a little planning, and sat with Rico while slowly easing into the morning. Most mornings, I’m either scheduling my last hair clients, checking my calendar, answering messages, or paying bills before work. I always have something going on in the mornings, whether I’m working or not.  One thing I truly love about being a hairstylist is having control over my own schedule. Especially, as I am about to exit the hair game for good for the 5th time. Although I have somewhat retired from the hair industry, I still have a few long-term clients, so I visit their homes. But, I have a sneaky suspicion they’re not trying to find somebody new. Because all we do is gossip while I am doing their hair. LOL, but I love it, it gives me something to do other than doomscrolling. :)

So, anytime I have a full day to do nothing, I am all in. So, once everybody finally made their way out of the house, I started my real skincare and pampering routine around 10 am, which honestly felt late for me. But the weather here in big Texas has been so muggy and rainy lately that I decided to take my sweet time and enjoy the process instead of rushing through it.

My breakfast was simple and light, just fruit, yogurt, and a huge glass of ice water. For some reason, whenever I drink coffee first thing in the morning, I can never eat a heavy meal afterward. So watermelon and strawberries ended up being perfect for me that day. If I had to work, I probably would’ve eaten oatmeal or something more filling, but my husband had plans to take me out later, so I wanted to save room for that.

By noon, I started getting dressed, I overloaded my style with bracelets, and my favorite necklace stack.

Rico planned a simple, no-stress kind of day for us, and honestly, I loved every minute of it. Around 5 pm, we ended up at one of our favorite record stores, browsing old records while a local band played extremely loudly. It felt nostalgic in the best way, and it was the kind of evening that makes you forget about work, responsibilities, and everything else for a little while.

I was flipping through records, CDs, and old cassettes while laughing and carrying on like I had lost my mind. Whew, it really turned into one of those carefree old-school nights where the music just pulls you in and keeps you there. I ended up buying some new music along with a few classics, too. I grabbed the Tyler The Creator Poster because I genuinely like his style and work ethic, and I am looking for his old record. It’s not persa his music I love but merely the creative side of him.

Once again, he reminds me of Michael Jackson, always creating original content. And it’s so much to unwrap in both Tyler and Michael's stories.

After the record viewing, my hubby picked out some Miles Davis for me, and whew, honey, hearing that soulful trumpet instantly put me in the best relaxed mood. There is just something about jazz playing while driving through the city at night that feels relaxing and timeless all at once.

By 9 pm, I was still outside acting grown and carefree. Honestly, I was giggling like a teenager who had just been set free from her parents for the weekend. LOL:) If you know, you know

Since the weather was so beautiful and breezy, we decided to walk around before dinner and just enjoy the evening air for a while. #sightseeing

And for dinner, we just stopped at our favorite burger spot, because you can never go wrong with burgers, fries, root beer floats with a fried cherry pie, and cinnamon churros. Naw, Ya'll, that's a good date.

What I loved most about the night was how simple everything felt. Good food, good music, walking around the city, and laughing out loud without apologizing for being happy. Those are honestly the moments I appreciate more these days.

And yes, I absolutely ended the night with ice cream because that just felt necessary, and I can never eat dinner without having something sweet.

By around 11 pm, my husband and I drove around the city for a little while longer, listening to Miles Davis play softly through the speakers while the cool night air rolled through the truck windows. Once I got home, I took a hot shower, did my PM skincare, and completely crashed.

Honestly, days like this remind me that happiness does not always have to be grand or expensive. Sometimes it’s candles, music, good food, old records, and spending time with the people you love while simply enjoying life as it comes. By the time I made it to bed, I was able to write a post for Wear What The Funk You Want, talking style goals at 50- something

So there you have it, a full little day in the life with me. This is my life being documented in the way I am living it. #RealBoringAndRaw
