Saturday Girl Talk

Saturday Girl Talk: Tangie Bell shares nostalgic weekend reflections, slow living, and joyful moments from life in her 50s.

Do you remember what Saturdays felt like when you were a kid?

For me, it was waking up to Big Mama in the kitchen cooking bacon, eggs, grits, and hotcakes, pouring warm syrup, and filling the house with the laughter and banging pots and pans.  #YaLet'sBringThatFeelingBack Every Saturday, I’d flip on the TV and watch The Flintstones or The Jetsons, feeling like the day stretched out forever.

Fast forward to being a grown woman now, most Saturdays feel so different. They come with a to-do list a mile long,  laundry, errands, business tasks, even on the weekends. Grown-up life has a way of stealing that carefree feeling we were taught to embrace as children. I believe those memories can be duplicated. Although I have done my share of cooking like Big Mama, and at this point in my life, I don't want to be in the kitchen cooking and cleaning on my Saturdays.
Am I wrong for feeling like that? Keep in mind that my kids are grown, and my husband is at work 12 hours a day, while I'm sitting at home writing this post. :) So, who am I going to the kitchen to cook for? My 13-year-old only wants butter toast. LOL (I am not kidding at the moment).

Tangie Bell Sightseeing Through Her City Dallas , Texas

So, guess what I am doing this Saturday? #nothing

Today I’m choosing slow.

For some reason, I want to get in my vehicle and go sightseeing in my city, possibly take photos of things I see, maybe sip something at my local café, and wander a secondhand shop just to see what treasures are waiting. I want to slide my hand across bookshelves until something calls my name. I just want to sightsee in my own backyard without rushing or planning every minute of my day.

Not to mention there’s a project I’ve been wanting to start, but that can wait for another day. #staytuned

Today I’m chasing that kid-like feeling again. The joy of waking up with no worries, no rushing, no rules, just doing Saturday things.

Because sometimes slowing down isn’t about doing more. It’s about doing less, it’s about remembering that not every day has to be serious.

Until next time, Hope You Are Living Beyond Existing!

xo, Tangie
