Life After 50: I Am Getting Older Now What ?

Life After 50: I Am Older Now What?

I never thought I would have this conversation with myself, but here I am. Now that I am over the age of 50 years old 54, to be precise it has finally hit me that I am old. I’ve lived 54 years of life on this earth; now what?

As I look back over my life, I can see moments and pieces of life’s puzzle that I should have paid more attention to. Things such as how I used up time, my mental space thinking about things that gave me no value, even my well-being; I didn't pay enough attention to those things, and now I am older.
I know most people who read this blog want me to talk about medical health, how to live long, or retirement.

And, yes, all those things are important as well for those of us who are aging. But some great websites already talk about those things.

As a black woman who is aging, I am in a different space in my life, and I didn’t see it coming. And it’s called getting old, and I am learning how to navigate that is my reality at the moment.

Life after 50 has a whole new set of rules that no one is really ready to deal with, including myself. There is no rule book or real-life person who just understands me right now.

When I turned 54  last year, everything about my body and my thought pattern felt different for the first time. When I was 20-something, I felt like a teenager; when I was 30-something, I felt and acted 20 something year old, when I was 40-something, I acted 30-something.
By the time 50 hit, I started seeing and feeling something different, and I can’t explain it at the moment. At the end of the day, something shifted inside my soul.

Now that I am 54, I can feel the life seasons have changed. And I am honestly in a new learning phase of understanding what it feels like to get old. #realtalk

Also, to be fair, life after 50 looks and feels different for everyone, but this is my truth. And I will be back to this conversation soon.

If you have something you would like to share that will help or inspire me and others on this journey, please leave a comment
