Hot Heat Outside Having Fun Lollygagging

Hot Heat Outside Having Fun Lollygagging
Can we normalize doing the mundane things in life? You know, those things that don't require you to rip, run, and cater to other folk. No, seriously, is there ever a time when we can turn off being a full worker, mom, and wife. Today, I must say I have changed my life and will not apologize for one moment. At 50-something, I am turning over new leaves in my life.

And it doesn't have to be this grand ole' jumping jets to Paris. It can be a simple, mundane day of relaxing, reading a book, watching movies, or laughing while playing games with your spouse or friend.
Let's jump into my simple, mundane life outside lollygagging. :)

But first, to the person who says going outside is cheap needs to go to the back of the bus. Because I am getting off at the next bus stop near 5th Street and Broadway.

No, seriously, all jokes aside, since when did it cost $100 just to hang outside and laugh with family and friends?

Two weeks ago, I planned a barbeque date outside that started with a budget of $20. Nope, that's not a joke:)

The goal was to bring one game, one project to work on, and a few hotdogs to toss on the grill. But, the Virgo in me went to the store and grabbed ground meat for burgers, onions, pickles, mustard buns, hot dogs more buns, soda, water, chips, Gatorade, candy, slice cake pieces, watermelon, and charcoal. Trust me when I say my outdoor trip in the heat costs more than $20. :) And as you can see, I went way over the budget.

UGH, but I am an honest Virgo who loves to overdo everything. And I mean dang thing in my life.

But that's okay. I have come to accept my flaws of being the Queen of doing fun things, even if it costs a billion bucks to do it.

In fact, after nearly 200 dollars in the hole, I decided there was no need to cry about anything. Instead, I loaded the truck and headed toward our local city park. Because, at this point, the park is the last free-standing thing a gal can do in this city.

But getting outside to have fun and enjoy the heat was all I could think about. I wanted to take my shoes off, play a few games of Connect 4 with the hubs, and eat lots of barbeque. And that is exactly what I did.

I think of lollygagging as a day of relaxing and enjoying life's mundane moments. Besides, I am not taking anything in my life too seriously anymore. It's about letting go and just allowing life to be and do what it will do. My plan is only to do my part and make my life as free-flowing as possible. That's it, and that's all!

So, here's to doing what makes me happy and what feels good now. I'll take a quiet day of watching the smoke from the grill fill up the sky while sweat drips down my husband's face as he flips hamburgers and turns over weiners so we can eat smoky food under the hot sun any day of the week.  Yep, that's my life turned up a notch.

And I learned two lessons today. #1 You are never too old to swing on a swing and laugh at yourself for not enjoying those childhood moments back in the day.

#2 Watching movies on the computer outside is actually fun and relaxing. And no one can tell me otherwise. :)

In conclusion, Although I may have spent a month's worth of groceries for one hot day of fun, it was worth spending time with the ones I love doing what makes me happy. And on that note, this may have been the best and most expensive outside gathering I've ever had, but  I wouldn't change it for anything in the world.
